So far, amazingly, Shepherd has kept on fighting. I think everyone is a little surprised, but also cautiously optimistic. I just talked to his night nurse and the resident pediatrician who has worked with him the most. It's been 30 hours and counting that Shep has been off the ventilator. We truly don't want to miss the fact that this is God's work.  Please keep praying for Shepherd, that he will even out his breathing, so that he won't tire out. I mentioned before that this is his last chance at ex-tubation on his own. We are all watching him hour to hour and feel like were on the edge of our seats because he is working so hard. But, here we are 30 hours later and he is still working, but so far he holding his own, even with the hard work. We do know that he can only do this so long before he'll ware down, though. So just pray for his strength, for God's strength really. And pray for his body to figure out this breathing thing. Pray that God would heal his "floppy airway" that seems to be causing his biggest trouble. These next couple of days will determine SO MUCH for Shepherd.
As we face Easter tomorrow and get the chance to think on the power of the cross, the work of redemption, and freedom from sin- please pray with us that God would show his healing power to all that have interacted with Shepherd in his short life so far.
