We talked to the doctors this morning and they are planning his ex-tubation for 4p, in an hour. When we first came in this morning, they had changed the setting on the ventilator in the middle of the night and his breathing patterns were all over the place. That was what we came in to this morning, so I didn't think they were going to even try today. But he has progressively done a little better as the day has progressed. I think where it stands, the nurses and residents who have interacted with him most think he may not be quite ready, while the doctor and attending physicians (who have the 'ultimate' say) think we need to try today. I think everyone is trying to ride the fine line between risks of ex-tubating too early and risks of intubating too long. Here is where we are- and I have told the staff many times- it is neither the Drs or the nurses, or us as parents who have the ultimate say. We have prayed, and all of you along with us, that God would have his way in the timing of this all. So we trust that He is the one ultimately controlling the circumstances leading up to this, pass or fail. Oh, I pray it's a pass.
We'll keep you all in touch. You can look at yesterdays post to know how to specifically pray.
A quote from Elisabeth Elliot's "Keep a quiet heart," a great encouragement to me during this time. Thanks, sis.
"And when we find ourselves most hopeless, the road most taxing, we may also find that it is them that the Risen Christ, catches up to us on the way, better than our dreams, beyond all our hopes. For it is He- not His gifts, not His power, not what He can do for us, but He himself who comes and makes Himself known to us. And this is the one pure joy for those who sorrow."
